oil on board 12in x 9in. (sold as framed) Over the years I've had a bash at this scene and failed every time for whatever reason... I thought I'd have another punt at it, and feel sufficiently pleased that I actually finished it! During the process it's evident that what makes a great photo doesn't necessarily make a good painting, this oft-photoed lone Hawthorn tree nestled in the limestone pavement of Winskill is one of the go-to places for many a photographer of the Dales. The smudge of light to the left of the tree is a vague remembrance of what the sun looked like, as it has rained nearly every day this year, and quite frankly, I'm getting a little fed up of it...
