Oil on Canvas Board 16" x 12"
Painted from studies and sketches from hides over in Lancashire. The Avocets seem to be permanent residents over at the reserve, and are frequently seen from one or both of the hides closest to the sea. Its amazing to think that these beautiful birds were completely wiped out in the UK. However, possibly dislodged from their breeding sites in Holland during the war a few pairs nested in Suffolk, and now it is estimated that there are around 1400 breeding pairs with many more spending the winter on our shores.
